The Union County Museum is governed by the Union County Museum Society.  The mission of the Union County Museum Society is to collect, preserve, study and exhibit objects and materials which illustrate the story of humans and nature in Union County.

The Society is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, with the following membership classes, shown with their annual fees: Individual, $10; Family, $20; Supporting, $50; Sponsoring, $100; or a one-time Life membership fee of $300. The museum is  funded by membership fees, admission fees, gift shop sales and donations. Grants are acquired for specific projects and have helped to fund numerous exhibits, expansions and facility upgrades.
