Tour the Historic Liberty Theatre

A Third Tuesday Presentation

UNION, OREGON__The Union County Museum continues their 2023 Third Tuesday events with a different venue and type of event. Tuesday, August 15, at 7 p.m., the public is invited to a guided tour of the Historic Liberty Theatre at 1010 Adams Avenue in La Grande, to get a look at the restoration progress. Much of the building sat injured and empty for decades, with two street level businesses inserted like boxes into the shell of the theater. But the stage remained intact, along with the antique chandelier and hints of the theater’s Art Deco origins.

The Liberty Theatre Foundation was founded in 2012 with the sole purpose of fully restoring and breathing a new life into the historic theater for the benefit of the community. Not only will visitors be transported back to the 1930s when they enter the finished theater, but they’ll also find the sort of amenities you’d expect from a modern theater – including a state-of-the-art sound system and cinema system, as well as a concession stand and ADA accommodations.

About the tour guide: Ashley O’Toole has been the Chairman of the Liberty Theatre Foundation since late 2019. He moved to La Grande in 2012 and immediately immersed himself in the community; working with organizations such as La Grande Main Street Downtown and the Union County Chamber of Commerce. He’s the founder of the annual New Year’s Eve Block Party in La Grande, and a co-founder of the Eastern Oregon Beer Festival.
