Third Tuesday Events bring new patrons

Jul 20, 2024

The July Third Tuesday, with speaker Tami Murphy of Union, drew a good audience and we thank Tami for her excellent storytelling. The events were created to provide an opportunity for local historians, storytellers and musicians to exhibit their interests and skills and to attract people to the museum who may have never thought of visiting. Board member Anne Rodriguez, La Grande, has taken on the task of lining up presenters and is bringing in a variety of topics and ideas. If you have a desire to share your expertise, please contact Anne at 963-8128, or leave her a message at the museum, 562-6003 or history@ucmuseumoregon.com.

For the August 20 event, at 7 p.m., we will visit the Eastern Oregon Fire Museum, in the former fire station on Washington Street in La Grande, for a tour of the museum exhibits and equipment and to hear stories of La Grande's fire fighting past. Fire Chief Emmet Cornford will lead the tour. The EO Fire Museum shares the building with Side A Brewing.

On September 17, it's back to the Little White Church for a concert by the popular Sheehy Family Band. Expect some favorite old-fashioned tunes and toe-tapping melodies, performed by this talented family.

Also of note this season:

Quilt Show - The Union County Museum will present a showing of quilts from their extensive collection, July 23 through July 27, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The showing takes place in the Little White Church, across Main Street from the museum complex at 333 South Main, in Union. Admission is free. This is a wonderful opportunity to view some amazing quilts from the past.

Yard Sale - The Yard Sale, an important museum fund raiser, will take place in the Little White Church, September 13 & 14, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Plan to attend! You'll find lots of bargains and it is a great chance to support the museum. Please drop your donated items for the yard sale off at the museum during regular hours. The museum is open Wednesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
