A New Season Begins Mother’s Day

May 5, 2026

This is a special season for the Union County Museum – we are celebrating its 55th anniversary! Founded in 1971, the museum collection presents the history and historical items from all of Union County, representing the rural areas, as well as the incorporated communities.

The Union County Museum continues its tradition of launching the season with an open house event on Mother’s Day, May 10, from 1 to 4 p.m., at the museum in Union. Admission is free for the event and refreshments will be available.

We’re honoring the people who built and have sustained the museum for 55 years. What does it take for an organization to remain strong through 55 years? Dedication to the mission, a willingness to work hard, and knowledge that compassion, compromise, connections and cooperation are the ingredients for success. Join us! At 55, we’re just hitting our stride!

Our event committee has been working hard creating some fun activities and a raffle to make the day even more special, and refreshments will be available. Board President Josh White will point out facility improvements that have been achieved or are under way due to the generosity of our donors and grants.

In addition to the Cowboys Then & Now Collection, the Livery Station, General Store, pioneer era cabin and natural history exhibits and the Watchmaker’s Collection, the museum has exhibits about agriculture in the region, Hat Point Lookout, beautiful period furniture and décor, an exhibit of collectible Breyer horses, Barbie dolls, and so much more.

A cadre of museum volunteers host visitors and work on projects and necessary tasks. To learn more about volunteering, please contact board member and volunteer coordinator Raye Clark, hookandraye@yahoo.com, or Josh White, Museum Society President, history@ucmuseumoregon.com or leave a voice message at 541.562.6003.

Museum board members encourage people to join the Union County Museum Society to support the mission of collecting, preserving, and presenting our area's history. Your membership helps ensure the museum continues its important role in Union County. Please invite friends who may have never visited the museum and help them see the value of supporting the institution.

Days and hours of operation following the Mother’s Day event are Wednesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Volunteer hosts work shifts, often in pairs.

The Union County Museum is located at 333 South Main Street in Union. The museum is owned by the Union County Museum Society, a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation, and operated by a small but very dedicated group of volunteers. Go to the museum website, www.ucmuseumoregon.com for more information, or call 541.562.6003 during museum hours.
